Best Beauty Discoveries of 2018

With an overwhelming amount of new releases each week, let alone every year, it can be really hard to filter through all the mediocre and so-so releases to find those true gems. I’ve decided to reflect on the year that was and highlight my favourite beauty discoveries of 2018.

I’ve tried to keep it as short as possible, and that was a particularly hard task. Let’s take a peep.

Bobbi Brown Face Base

The Vitamin Enriched Fase Base has a huge cult following and to say I was skeptical was an understatement. I’m usually turned off by makeup brands that begin to offer skincare and vice versa. I have a ‘stay in your lane’ kind mentality. But, man, I was so wrong.

This moisturiser/primer hybrid is a little jar of heaven. I cannot fault it. It is unbelievably nourishing, smells bloody delicious and works so well as a primer or on its own. It doesn’t leave my oily skin slick, instead, it adds such a natural hydrated finish that gives my skin that ‘facial-fresh’ appearance. Consider Face Base a biiiiig old drink of water for your skin. I am so glad I finally gave this little baby a go.

Bobbi Brown Eye Cream

Similarly to the Face Base, this pot of eye cream is worth its weight in gold. In the past, I would avoid wearing eye cream in the morning, as it would ball up and make my makeup slide straight off. That is until I found this. A Beauty Advisor in Mecca applied this to my under eye area and I could not believe how easy it absorbed and how hydrated it made my skin. Concealer blended in and wore perfectly, and in fact, it looked better than usual because my skin was so nourished. I have not stopped using this since.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Oil Free Matte

I wear the original CC+ almost every day. It is perfection. So, when the news broke that IT were releasing a Matte variation, I was equal parts excited and nervous. I was nervous it wouldn’t be nearly as good as the original. But, it was much better than I expected. Generally, mattes aren’t super flattering. They stick and emphasise texture and can make you feel like you’re wearing cement on your face.  Not the Oil-Free Matte. Instead, it has a satin finish, which both feels and looks natural on the skin all while keeping you shine free. Winner.

Nars Wanted Palette

I am a NARS-oholic. It’s true. So its only fitting that the brand features a few times in my favourites of the year. This palette is utter perfection. From the formula to the colour and standout packing, this little baby is a red-hot 10. Despite having too many palettes to count, I find myself coming back to Wanted, time and time again. (Unfortunately, this stunner was limited edition)

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Collection

Okay, I know I have only had my mitts on this collection for such a short time, but hear me out. Inspired by the cult favourite, and ever-so versatile lipstick shade, the Pillow Talk collection is all things dusty pink and mauve.  Similarly to the lipstick, the eyeshadow shades in the quad, and the Cheek to Chic blush shade are so so so flattering. It would work on almost any skin tone. If your a newbie to CT or a long-time lover, this collection is essential.

Fluff Bronzing Powder

This metallic little pebble is another product that showed up on my desk later in the year, but it was love at first sight. The packaging is next level. It is a solid (And, I mean solid. DO NOT drop it on your foot – it hurts) silver case, that slides open to reveal a simple looking bronzer.  But just because it is simple, does not mean it is basic. This beautiful powder is so so so user-friendly. It is virtually impossible to apply too much and come away looking like a muddy mess. Instead, it adds depth and bronze to the face so effortlessly. It blends out really easily and can be built up no problem. This is the bronzer of dreams.

Marc Beauty Enamoured Lip Gloss Stick

As the popularity of glosses soared again, it was great to see some new takes on an old classic. Marc Jacobs Beauty has always had really lovely lip products, but the Enamoured Lip Gloss Stick truly has my heart. Delivered in the form of a lipstick, this gloss is super practical, full of pigment and feels as smooth as silk across the lips.

Nars Powermatte Liquid Lipstick

What a formula! Oh my! It is water thin, non-drying, packed to the brim with punchy pigment and so bloody long-lasting.  The best liquid lipstick formula yet.

Foreo UFO

You’ve probably heard me harp on and on about this little device, and with good reason, it is amazing.  The Foreo UFO is a masking that device that also doubles as an LED skin treatment. I use this at least 3 times a week to give my skin a boost, having doing so for the last 6 months. Now, I don’t know if this is solely to thank, but my skin is in the best condition it ever has been. Coincidence or miracle worker?

Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel

This handy little pack of goodness gives you professional, in-salon results in the comfort of your own home.  Do I really need to say anymore? The Rapid Reveal Peel pack is permanently in my bathroom because it is that good.  It has completely upped my skincare game.

Maison Margiela Replica Frangrace ‘By The Fireplace’

While I covet many different fragrances at the one time, no fragrance has ever affected me the way ‘By The Fireplace’ has. The intoxicating woody and smoky scent, instantly seduced me when I was first introduced to the REPLICA line at MECCALAND. There was just something so unique about it. It whisked me away to a cozy log cabin drinking red wine and it made me feel so bloody happy. It was so unlike any other fragrances I’ve ever sampled, I knew straight away that I had to have it. By The Fireplace has certainly made its way into my heart and I will love it forever. I just can’t wait until it is cooler so that I can finally wear it again. The entire REPLICA collection is a gorgeous, memory-inducing line and I am so glad I discovered it.

What were your favourite beauty discoveries of 2018? I’d love to know.
