Zincredible Original and Tinted Review

Does anyone else feel like they are always on the hunt for the best daily sunscreen/moisturiser hybrid?

I am pretty picky when it comes to facial sunscreen. Physical sunscreen is my preferred method. Pigmentation is a concern of mine and chemical sunscreens are claimed to actually cause and emphasize those pesky little-discoloured patches*.  Generally, however, chemical sunscreens usually feel better on the skin and produce a higher SPF.

It honestly feels that with every new week, I am trialing a new product in the hope that it’ll be the answer to my sun-protective/moisturising prayers. But, alas, here I am on my knees still begging to the skincare gods to appease me.

Introducing Zincredible.

Go-To Skincare claims to have finally created what we all so desire – A physical sunscreen that is equal parts lightweight, easy to wear and sun-safe.  Not only did founder, Zoe-Foster Blake, seemingly create the ultimate dream of a daily moisturiser, but she went and outdid herself by creating a tinted version too. Praise be.

But, do these highly-anticipated, hugely-hyped products live up to their claims? Let’s jump in and take a look.

Zincredible Original

A deeply hydrating daily moisturiser with physical SPF 15 for moderate UV protection.

Here are some key highlights of its claims

  • Contains Zinc Oxide to create a physical barrier between the sun and your precious skin
  • Prevents against Infrared Rays penetrating the skin. These pesky little rays contribute to hyperpigmentations and sun-damage.
  • Formulated with essential fatty acids, botanical oils, and antioxidants to nourish, hydrate and protect the skin from free radical damage.
  • Doubles as a primer
  • Contains NO chemical UV filters, silicones, sulfates, parabens or synthetics which can compromise skin health and irritate sensitive skin.

You can read much more about the formulation here.

Verdict?

Zincredible is really good. It’s almost perfect, but just not quite there. I find it to be quite thick and it requires a bit of effort to spread evenly and absorb. After it is on, while there isn’t any white cast, it sure does feel heavy and a little tacky on the skin. This tackiness does make it perfect for use under makeup. However, I did find my skin getting greasier quicker when this was used underneath. After about 30 minutes the product has fully absorbed, but there is still a slight heaviness. I can feel it sitting on my skin throughout the day. But, with the being said, my skin is still soft, smooth and moderately protected from the sun.

Zincredible Tinted

A daily moisturiser with antioxidants, physical SPF 15 protection and a sheer glow.

Boasting the same tip-top ingredients and claims as its big sister, Tinted also gives the skin some added radiance and glow with a very sheer touch of colour.

Strangely enough, there is only one shade offered in the Tinted version of Zincredible. While it works ok for me, there is no way it’d suit every skin tone. Someone paler would definitely need to apply carefully to ensure there were no ‘tide lines’ under the jaw etc. In a time when brands release upwards of 40 different shades, it’s very disappointing that such a modern brand only offer one.  Although, I do think that this is merely tinted to offset the white cast that most zinc-based sunscreens possess. But it is still something to consider about this product.

Verdict?

Zincredible Tinted is definitely my preferred product of the two. It is a little bit closer to perfect. There is just something about the tinted variation that applies better, leaves the skin a little less sticky, and a dash more radiant. The pigment is quite sheer, so don’t expect any coverage or concealing, but it will ever-so-slightly even out the skin tone. I found that it also works just as well as a primer, so it’s perfect under makeup or worn alone for a fresh-faced glow. There still tends to be a heaviness that hangs around after applying it, but my skin is certainly hydrated and nourished.

Overall Thoughts:

I like both Zincredible versions. But there is something missing. I don’t know whether it’s because it is only 15+ or maybe my expectations were too high. While I will continue to use and love it on days where I’m not really venturing outside, it just isn’t going to cut it otherwise. I’d prefer to reach for other moisturisers on a daily basis that don’t feel as heavy or sticky on the skin.

Ultimately, I know that making a physical sunscreen that doesn’t quite feel like your spreading pure zinc on your face and making it more moisturiser-esque is quite the achievement. Fun Fact: It took Zoe 4 whole years to formulate these babies. So at this stage in the game, I think that these two are about as good as you’re going to get.

Just a reminder that while SPF 15 is perfect for your daily wear, this isn’t going to properly protect your cute little mug from extended exposure of direct sunlight. If you’re planning a picnic or day at the beach, be sure to reach for something much higher in SPF.

Both Zincredible variations retail at $45, direct from the Go-To website.

Oooh interesting review!! I am currently using the Medik8 Physical Sunscreen which is an SPF30, but quite thick and white, but it does absorb in well and I really like it (on my second tube) but I think I need something a little bit lighter for everyday usage. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the reviews on Zincredible and I think I’m going to pick up the tinter version after reading this!!

I like it, it does make my skin feel quite nice but I can’t move past the 15 SPF – it sort of feels a bit pointless unless I’m staying inside all day. X

I so want to try both of these SPF and a bunch of other things from go to skincare! I love Zoe, what she’s about and her brand. Everything seems bullshit free and just about awesome products. I also desperately need an SPF seeing as I’m using retinol in my skincare routine.

If you’re using a retinoid, a definitely use something with a higher SPF than 15. I burnt once just hanging out the washing wearing a 30+. It was bad

Loved your honest review! I’m a bit concerned that its only SPF 15 and I don’t think the tinted one will suit my darker skin tone.

Thanks Rach. Yeah 15 ain’t great, I definintely need more than that. And yes, the shade range is very bizarre.
