MAC Matte Fix+ And Pore Refiner Stick

MAC’s Fix+ has got to be one of those items that almost everyone has in their collection, or at least used at some stage.  It has a multitude of uses and certainly is a fixture in my collection. MAC have recently built upon their Prep & Prime collection and added a couple of variations to Fix+, including Pinklite, Goldlite, scented versions and more recently a Matte Fix+. This, in addition to a brand new Pore Refiner Stick, has got oily girls like me, a little excited. I’ve put them to the test and come back with my thoughts.

Matte Fix+

A light, oil-free emulsion that helps conceal visible pores while controlling oil. Applies “wet” for a gentle micro-exfoliation; dries instantly to create an invisible, long-lasting natural matte finish. Ideal for the T-zone.

At first glance, the formula looks clear, but much like its sparkly counterparts, give it a shake and a powder-like substance mixes in and turns the liquid a milky colour. MAC claims that this bad boy can be used both before and after makeup application for a mattifying effect.

There is no scent and the mist is exactly the same as the regular Fix+. As soon as I spray this over my face, I can immediately see a difference. I’ve used this on both matte and dewy foundations and the result stays the same – a suuuper matte finish. There isn’t any flashback, nor any residue of any kind on the face. The longevity of my makeup is dramatically increased and my oily t-zone is basically non-existent. Say whaaat? I am so impressed.

Overall, I’m sold.  I think especially in Summer when sweat and oil are an even bigger issues, this bottle is going to be my matte saviour. If you love a matte finish and struggle with being an oil slick, I would highly recommend getting your mitts on this.

Pore Refiner Stick

A magic stick that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles for a smooth matte finish.

I know I am not alone in the struggle of giant pores. They almost always come hand-in-hand with oily skin – aren’t we lucky! I am constantly trying products to disguise and diminish the look of these gaping holes all over my face, so I think I did a happy dance when this little stick arrived at Beauty Bender HQ. The stick appears to be quite small but only a small swipe is needed on the skin. Once applied, it feels weightless and so smooth on the face. I did note an instant reduction in the appearance of my pores and also a mattifying effect. I also noticed that fine lines were hidden and my skin, in general, look much smoother. Foundation applied perfectly over the top – no balling or slipping at all.  My pores are disguised, not totally erased because let’s face it, you’d need putty to fill in those bad boys, but there is definitely a difference.

This is another winner in my opinion. Due to how light the formula is, it also works brilliantly over the top of your regular primer or works well on its own. I was never a fan of products like the Benefit Porefessional as it left a bit of a residue behind and made my makeup slip, but the MAC Pore Refiner Stick doesn’t do this at all, in fact, it adds to the longevity of my makeup. Winner.

What do you think? Do you need help with your oil situation?

Oh MAC Matte Fix+, welcome to my shopping list. I do hope that it becomes permanent because it would e a shame if it stayed limited edition.

I prefer the regular bottle of fix + (and I actually want to try the glowy version) but this matte version does sound perfect for the summer months, I only have oilyness in the t-zone but in the summer time my t-zone is extra oily & not to mention the crazy heat has us makeup lovers sweating off our makeup.

I’m not big on the regular version as a setting spray. I like it more as a mixing medium, so the Matte works so much better for me. I’m an oily mess, so I need a little assistance in that department x
