Thank you for stopping by – I really do appreciate that people actually read my ramblings. Quite a number of products land on my desk here at Beauty Bender HQ. I wish that I had all day, everyday to trial and talk about products, but alas, I need a full-time job to fund my ridiculously expensive hobby. This means I don’t always get to share with you products that I am excited about, but with an influx of products recently I thought I’d pick out some that deserve a mention.
Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil
I use cleansing oils every day in the first step of my nightly routine. Nothing, and I mean nothing, removes and breaks down my cakeface like oil. Plus using oil on my oily skin is actually really good for it (I can write a post about this, if anyone is interested?). I’ll rub in on my dry face, then wash it off with my Clarisonic and regular cleanser, and my face is so squeaky clean. It even gets rid of my Estee Lauder Double Wear – Praise be to baby cheeses. I’ve come across a few favourites in my time, but I just haven’t quite found one that I am willing to stick with. Simple is an incredible, high-quality affordable brand. Each of the products do what they promise and are so gentle but nourishing. This particular cleansing oil is fragrance-free, with no artificial nasties and packed with grapeseed oil and vitamins A & E. The oil is clear in colour and relatively light-feeling on the face. Plus, it doesn’t sting my eyes. My beatface is removed in a flash, and this little guy doesn’t leave much of an oily residue at all. Love, Love, LOVE! The price point is realllllly good too, much better than some of the other oil cleansers I have used. One comment that I do have is that mine has gone a little cloudy and there is some sediment at the bottom – I am guessing that perhaps some water has gotten into the bottle, but it still works all the same. I have emailed Simple to ask about this, and they are currently investigating what is going on.
I was kindly gifted a few bits and pieces from Mary Kay and I am really intrigued by them. The first is a microdermabrasion set that targets fine lines, large pores and promises immediate results all from the comfort of your own home – Um, yes please! This little pink 2-step set boasts great results. They found that just after one week 85% of users saw an improvement in skin texture, 73% saw a reduction in fine line and 71% saw smaller- looking pores. Sounds incredible, right?! I’ve only used it the once, but I was impressed. The 2-step process is simple and my face was left feeling really smooth and refined. I can’t wait to give this kit a bit more of a go.
I was also sent 3 pieces of Mary Kay’s Botanical Effects range – Cleanser, Toning Spray and Mask/Scrub. I was sent the formula 1 range which is marketed towards dry and sensitive skin, which is the opposite of my skin type, but I am looking forward to trying it nonetheless. The Botanical Effects range is antioxidant rich, hypoallergenic, kind on the environment and fragrance free.
I first experienced SunBum in Hawaii last year and instantly loved it. From the branding and packaging to the products themselves, this sunscreen range is incredible. I was lucky enough to be invited to Beauty HQ’s first birthday party a few weeks ago and was introduced to a really great product and a little trick. The product is actually apart of SunBum’s childrens range, BabyBum. It is a natural suncreen stick that was created specifically for babies delicate skin. It is gentle, non-greasy and all natural, which tells me that it would be perfect on the face – and it is! It is the most perfect facial sunscreen I have come across. It sits under makeup flawlessly. It goes on clear, spreads and rubs into the skin effortlessly – there is no whitecast or oily film. I didn’t notice any difference in makeup longevity, oil production or makeup separation throughout the day. This is an absolute winner and will be getting a workout from me come Summer. I would highly recommend this to everyone, we all know the importance of SPF with premature aging. Get on it, guys!
Coconut Tree is an Australian brand that prides itself on high quality skincare that is developed with only the best natural and organic ingredients. I got my mitts on their Coconut and Lemongrass bodywash and Coconut Every Night Face moisturiser. The bodywash fills the bathroom with a refreshing lemongrass scent, it lathers well and doesn’t seem to dry out the skin at all, thanks to the added high quality coconut oil. I really like the packaging of this and look really nice sitting in my shower. This little guys also contains NO synthetic colours or fragrances. No silicone, sulphates, parabens, glyols and mineral oils. The Night moisturiser has really surprised me, I find that most moisturiers that are coconut oil based really don’t sink into my face. Butttt, this one absorbs instantly! My face is left plump and hydrated, without an oily residue. I do however, find that it is maybe a little lighter than I would prefer for a night cream, but works perfectly as a daily moisturiser under my makeup. If you are looking for natural, Australian made products, I would definitely check Coconut Tree out. I have a few more products on my list that I want to try – The Calm Balm, Body Polish and Hair-care.
I am a huge lover of candles and all nice smelly things. I find that scent affects me a great deal. Lavender and soft musks make my sleepy, while I love to burn fresh scents while blogging to keep me alert and creative. I have one burning basically the whole time I am at home, so I go through a lot. New Moon scents are new to me, but they have already made a huge impact. When I look for a new candle, I need it to carry the fragrances really well, I want it to look good and I want long burning times. And, of course, at the end of the day we all want the price to be affordable. These little hand-made candles tick all the boxes. Plus, with my boyfriend’s last name being Moon, the brand name definitely strikes a chord with us. I was sent a few bits and pieces to try out and I have been loving them so far. I have the Medium soy candle in Pina Colada. This isn’t a scent that I would normally pick out for myself, as I generally find the combination of pineapple and coconut quite sweet, but this bad boy isn’t sickly at all. It fills the house with a scent that is reminiscent of tropical holidays. It is meant to burn for approx. 30 hours which is pretty decent with the size. It is currently burning away beside me and making me crave a mai tai and humid weather. There are two larger candle sizes that retail for $25 and $30, which is really reasonable for hand-poured soy candles. I also have 4 little wax melts that smell ahhhhmazing! Unfortunately, I don’t have an oil burner that is big enough for these little guys, so I haven’t has the chance to burn any yet. They are meant to last approx 15 hours each. I am obsessed with Red Velvet Cake and Very Vanilla – yummmm. There is upwards of 25 different scents that sound absolutely heavenly. Like Blueberry Cheesecake, Ginger & Green Tea, Musk Sticks and Sweet Peach, just to name a few They also make the most adorable candles that look like milkshakes – one of those is definitely next on my list.
I do have a discount code that’ll get you 15% off the total of your order, ‘onabeautybender’ – please note, that this is an affiliate code.
Hello favourite concealer! I am obsessed with this little guy. It gets rid of pesky dark circles in a flash, it doesn’t crease and lasts all day. I love the shade ‘light’ as it is perfect for the under eye area. It isn’t too heavy or waxy, like some concealers can be. The formula is light and easily blended. It is packaged in a tube, which is great for hygienic reasons. Plus, the price is very do-able. Winner.
I really love the concept behind the Pep-start range. The range is marketed as multi-taskers for the woman who is constantly on the go, but wanting to make the most of her skincare. The HydroBlur moisturiser is definitely my highlight of the bunch. It is a primer/moisturiser/mattifying base hybrid.
This oil-free moisturizer instantly blurs imperfections while providing all-day hydration. Skin looks naturally perfected with a matte finish. Wear it alone, or under foundation. It’s so lightweight you can use it for touch-ups throughout the day. We call it your new favorite filter…the ideal way to give your skin the moisture it needs, and the forgiving ‘retouch’ that blurs the look of pores and fine dry lines.
The product itself is a fairly thick pink paste, but is spread easily on the skin. It does feel like it sits on the skin at first, but give it a few seconds and it has absorbed completely. It leaves super smooth skin that it amazingly, blurred. Seeyoulaterbye gigantic pores. I doesn’t ball up once foundation is applied and doesn’t react with the foundation at all. I did notice that throughout the day my skin wasn’t as oily nor were my pores as noticeable. Definitely a winner for me.
I have to mention another candle that has quickly become a favourite. I have been buying Glasshouse Fragrances for years, I have probably bought the Tahaa candle 7-8 times. While these are on the more pricey end of the scale, the scent strength that these candles throw is incredible. I can have it burning for a couple of hours and continue to smell the caramel vanilla-ry goodness when I walk through the door a couple of days later. I have had this candle sitting on my vanity for a week, unopened and I could smell it when I was laying in bed at night. I never thought that another candle could top Tahaa, but this years Halloween Edition Pumpkin Pie certainly comes close. At first, I thought that this candle would smell a little like a sweet pumpkin soup cooking on the stove, but I couldn’t be more wrong. This candle smells is so warm and rich, I personally think it is the fragrance equivalent of a warm hug. You can smell sugar, vanilla and coconut as well as pumpkin, cinnamon and maple. I urge you to go to David Jones and get a whiff, because it is heavenly – But be quick because it is only around for Halloween.
